The Heritage Boys’ and Girls’ Cross-Country teams started the season off in grand fashion against tough conference competition in Forest Lake. The Boys Varsity team won their “tri” meet against Lester Prairie and New Life Academy with a perfect score of 15, by securing the top 5 finishing times and placing all 7 runners in the top 10. Sophomore Kees vanOosbree led the varsity squad to the finish in a time of 18:40. Senior Henry Hakanson, junior Elijah Erickson, freshman Thomas Avra (RiverTree), and junior Grant Nelson (RiverTree) rounded out the scoring 5 for Heritage with juniors Matthew Steil and Daniel Farrant also running varsity.
The Girls Varsity race was equally exciting as our Eagles were matched well by the team from Lester Prairie. In the end, though, the girls took the upper hand and won the meet by a score of 26 to 31. The girls’ team was led by newcomer Bethany Boerner (West Lutheran) who placed second in the meet with a time of 21:00. The rest of the scoring Eagles included senior Simone Lundquist, sophomore Macy Bell, junior Sophia Haskett, and senior Morgan Bell. Seniors Abbie Vetse and Faith Boerner (West Lutheran) also contributed points to the final score and sealed the deal by beating out Lester Prairie’s 5th scoring runner.
Heritage Cross Country definitely has the numbers to win big this year with nearly 50 athletes competing. Both JV teams and C-Teams won convincingly as Heritage swept the night. The future of Heritage Cross Country looks VERY BRIGHT! Both teams head to Bassett Creek on Thursday to race against more tough conference competition.
